New Seven Wonders of the World

Modern lists of the world’s wonders are as numerous – or more – as the wonders themselves, but one list that has largely captured the world’s imagination is the New Seven Wonders of the World. This list was voted on by people across the world over a span of several years on a website built for the purpose by the for-profit organization New7Wonders Foundation.

177 monuments and landmarks across the world – both old and new – were nominated for the list. The list was then narrowed down to 21 finalists. The final list of seven monuments was chosen by more than 100 million votes cast worldwide. Finally, the results were announced in Lisbon, Portugal in 2007.

The list contains seven wonders both old and new. However, the Great Pyramid of Giza – the only surviving wonder of the ancient world – is considered as an honorary candidate.

List of the new seven wonders of the world:

  1. Great Wall of China
  2. Petra
  3. Statue of Christ the Redeemer
  4. Machu Picchu
  5. Chichen Itza
  6. Colosseum
  7. Taj Mahal
