The college offers B.F.A., M.A. and M.F.A. degrees in animation at SCAD-Savannah and SCAD-Atlanta through the School of Film and Digital Media. In the professional field, animators use drawing, images and movements to convey meaning or an action. Animators incorporate technical craft with the essential elements of drawing, design creativity and collaboration, as well as an awareness of the history and theory of the medium. The use of traditional art media in digital context is central to the program. Drawing and observational skills are emphasized throughout. Students learn on the same tools used throughout the industry: After Effects, Premiere, Flipbook, Flash and Dreamweaver; Autodesk Maya; Anime Studio; Apple Shake; and Pixar RenderMan. School of Film and Digital Media resources also include a Vicon motion capture system.
