North Central College

Interactive Media Studies (IMS) is a new major that blends art, computer science, English, journalism and speech communications to prepare you for some of the most exciting careers to emerge in the 21st century. Visit our departmental Web site to learn more about our program. The program will be phased in over three years. Students entering North Central as freshmen fall 2005 or later can complete the major or minor. Transfer students and students entering prior to fall 2005 may be able to complete a major or minor depending upon their existing mix of courses. IMS majors study the design, development, analysis and responsible use of digital multimedia as a means of effective communication. The major will prepare you to create and manipulate text, sound, graphics, animation and video. You'll learn to create media-rich products for delivery via the Web, CD-ROM/DVD, radio, television, and print. Multimedia designers help individuals and organizations to convey effective, targeted messages for diverse audiences. A B.A. degree and a minor are offered in IMS. A major in IMS will choose one of three tracks: Graphic Arts, Interactive Media Technology or Convergent Media. The B.A. degree in IMS requires completion of a common core of classes followed by a concentration of coursework in one of three tracks: Graphic Arts, Interactive Media Technology, or Convergent Media.
