Mount Ida College
Mount Ida College's Computer Animation major prepares students to translate creative concepts into objects, characters and motion. Computer animation skills are used in a variety of fields including advertising, entertainment, interactive media, and businesses that rely on dynamic presentations and simulations. The program is offered within the College's School of Design and includes coursework in graphics, motion, storyboarding, scripting, post-production techniques and publicity. Students compose an animation demo reel and conclude the program with a senior thesis consisting of a short animated film to be included in a public show. Computer Animation Laptop Requirement Computer Animation students at Mount Ida are required to purchase a laptop and software for use both in and out of their Computer Animation classes. This machine - purchased for the start of their sophomore year - should be a PC which is capable of running high-end 3D animation software. It is not recommended that students purchase their laptop before the sophomore year. At this time, core classes are based on Autodesk's Maya Unlimited, an industry-standard application used in film, games, television, and many other fields. PC laptop technology improves rapidly, with increases in speed, and decreases in price. Before the start of each year, sophomores will be provided a suggested laptop configuration on which they may base their purchase.
