Computer-Generated 3D Design & Animation A.A.S. The 3D Design and Animation program is a streamlined and extensive curricula focusing on the strengths of Alias, Discreet, AVID, and Adobe software applications. Emphasis is placed on surfacing, lighting, rendering, 3D modeling, and the fundamental principles of animation. These concepts are then applied in the areas of character animation, visual effects, and pre-visualization. Students will be prepared to enter the CG Design field as 2D & 3D Animators, Motion Graphics & Visual Effects Artists, Product Designers, Pre-Visualization Artists and Animatics Developers. The program culminates with the development of a demo reel and an on-line portfolio utilizing Maya, 3DS MAX, Xpress Pro, Flash, After Effects, and Photoshop. Programs in the Digital Media & the Arts division share a common teaching philosophy: Provide students with the skills and knowledge required to develop innovative solutions to problem-based projects, intelligently interact with industry professionals, and elaborate on the history of the Digital Media industry relevant to selected areas of study. Upon successful completion of this program, graduates will be able to: Demonstrate effective oral and written communication. Visualize, interpret, and design efficient computer-generated 3-dimensional models. Utilize Maya and 3DS MAX modeling and animation applications. Develop motion graphics using Macromedia Flash. Composite visual effects using Adobe After Effects. Apply principles of photo-realism to product design. Develop Radiosity solutions utilize the Mental Ray render engine. Apply principles of motion and physics to design realistic animations. Develop simulations and visual effects using particle systems. Manipulate rigs using Forward and Inverse Kinematics to design compelling character animations.
