Alexandria Technical College
For students planning a career in fashion retail store management, the Fashion Management Program is an ideal choice, as it has been designed especially for this purpose. The 72-credit program includes classroom instruction, which focuses on such topics as visual presentation, fashion merchandising, retail store management, market planning and strategies, and customer service. Following classroom instruction, students will have learned on-the-job training at a retail store in their field of fashion retail and management. Involvement through work experience, field trips, professional conferences and other activities is an important part of the Fashion Management program.
Qualifications for applicants to the Fashion Management program include strong interests in people, fashion merchandising, and a desire for challenge. The student's work history should include some time in retail, as this is beneficial before enrolling in the program. Growing leadership and management abilities and a willingness to relocate are two crucial elements that prospective Fashion Management students must be aware of.
When it comes to retailing, Minnesota has both a global presence and the distinction of being home to the very first enclosed mall (Southdale), the first Target Store (Har-Mart), and, of course, the Mall of America. Prominent retail corporations including Target, Best Buy, Marshall Fields, Wilson's Leather, Maurice's, Christopher and Banks, and Shop NBC locate their headquarters here in Minnesota.
While the Herberger's main office is no longer located in Minnesota, the company continues to support the state's students and graduates in the state, offering internship and regular positions as well as educational experience. Throughout the legendary Mall of America and all across the communities of northern Minnesota, exciting and rewarding careers in the retail industry are available, close to anyone's home.
