The New School
Our Department of Fashion Design has been on the leading edge of American fashion since it began in 1906. Our Alumni, from Claire McCardell to Donna Karan, Tom Ford, and Narciso Rodriguez, have been the creators of the highest standard of clothing design in the last century. They've changed the way society behaves towards clothes, and changed how the fashion industry operates.
Today our past graduate students rank amongst 21st-century fashion leaders. Students realize their own unique visions while meeting the obstacles of the real world of the fashion business at Parsons. Students will learn the design process by taking courses in:
- Concept development
- Fashion drawing
- Studio use
- Digital fashion studio
Problem solving is learned for a range of markets. They are exposed to a variety of industry professionals at the Designer Critic Program and the annual Fashion Show.
The relationships between design, merchandising and marketing are explored by Fashion marketing. Students gain the experience needed to enter and succeed in the marketplace, including the skills required in development, promotion, advertising, and retailing. No matter if they choose the two-year program or one with an accelerated schedule, they will be totally immersed in a very intense course of study.
The course of study provides a base in marketing, merchandising, and retailing. Such courses as Digital Fashion and professional internships provide that AAS students have the same opportunities as do our Bachelor's candidates.
Our graduates are prepared to make their mark as pioneering design entrepreneurs with a background in traditional marketing as well as new technologies. We offer fashion marketing classes online as well as on-campus so you can balance your coursework, homework and internship easier.
Students can take advantage of our online courses that are available any time of day or night from any location with a computer and an Internet connection. The AAS Fashion Studies program is doing its part to train the next generation of fashion talent.
Instilled upon the students are the skills, process and language of fashion design from original concept to production through to market introduction. AAS students are ready to focus on design with a general college education and strong work experience already behind them. Their visions are one-of-a-kind, coming from influences as distant as Tibet and as close as Times Square. Students' dreams come true by undertaking courses in fashion drawing and construction design.
Due to the completion of courses in the fashion industry, history, and the creation of a portfolio, students have an excellent starting opportunity into the marketplace.
