You are offered exposure to the fashion industry by choosing Meredith's fashion merchandising and design program. Through a rigorously structured service learning, study abroad and experiential learning, you will experience a challenge to strengthen your talents and intellectual caliber, expand your knowledge, increase understanding and then apply that toward a personal and professional advancement, for the betterment of your families and communities, and for the betterment of humankind.

Fashion Merchandising and Design Goals Program

Concentration in either the merchandising or design sector by fashion merchandising and design students is determined based on a students desired career, ability, and personal interest. Students working towards the fashion merchandising and design major must complete 124 total hours of course work, including the general education requirements.

Students are prepared for professional careers in fashion retailing, including:

  • Store management
  • Buying
  • Visual merchandising
  • Fashion coordinating
  • Fashion editing
  • Consumer services in merchandising

This program's strong concentration in design prepares students for jobs in fashion design by providing them a wealth of knowledge and necessary skills.

Students will be able to apply terms, concepts, and quantitative data important in fashion merchandising and retailing after completing the Fashion Merchandising and Design Program Goals program.

  • High level of problem solving related to fashion retailing and wholesaling should be demonstrated adequately.
  • Demonstrate an acceptable level of skill in the areas of communication, research and critical thinking.
  • Use technology employed by the fashion industry in both retail and wholesale channels.

When making decisions within the areas of fashion retailing and wholesaling, it is essential to practice the use of ethical principles.

On completing the Merchandising program, students will learn to:

  • Apply art and design concepts and skills in Fashion Design on their own
  • Demonstrate a sufficiently high level of creativity and problem solving that are in connection with apparel design and manufacturing.
  • Students can demonstrate effective ways to communicate, research and critical thinking skills.
  • Participate in self-assessment and also in the assessment of peers
