At Middle Tennessee State University, the Textiles and Merchandising and Design curriculum allows students the ability to gain the required knowledge and skills that will be helpful in the fashion industry. Students will be prepared for employment in various areas of retailing, promotion, visual merchandising, wholesaling, and consulting through the major in Textiles, Merchandising, and Design with an emphasis in fashion merchandising.
The call for graduates with these talents continues to expand. There is a large unmet demand for professionals in the fashion business in the USA, and that this demand will escalate during the coming years as reported by the USDA. Students that choose the apparel design specialization may find work in some of the same areas or may develop careers as fashion designers or patternmakers with clothing manufactures.
Numerous potential employers and students have requested the emphasis in apparel design be made available. MTSU has therefore created a design emphasized program to address the high demand of apparel design in the Southeast. The business of fashion is one of the largest and most vital industries in the country.
The area of merchandising and design are relatively young and quickly growing. Many new career opportunities are becoming available to that person who possesses enthusiasm, dependability, and specialized training for executive responsibility with each passing day.
