Sam Houston State University
You will find that the University has continued to monitor, update, and improve the programs offered through the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences in order to meet the needs of all students. This curriculum provides a holistic theoretical base with an emphasis on the physiological, psychological, sociological, intellectual characteristics, and needs of the public they will serve.
Utmost importance is given to the professional development of students through educational opportunities. The best use of the faculty and all the available university resources is made to achieve this.
A supervised internship (FCS 469) for a minimum of 300 hours is a prerequisite to the following programs:
- Fashion Merchandising
- Food Service Management
- General Family and Consumer Sciences (without teacher certification)
- Interior Design
While students will be supplied with leads for internships, actually participating in the internship is considered part of the experience. Students have the opportunity to travel abroad to Europe study the lives and works of chemists and the influence they've had on our world. The Chemistry Department cooperates to offer the program to students.
