Admission requirements - Pre-Fashion Merchandising:
Students will start with a Pre-Fashion Merchandising major (125.99) in which they'll complete COMM 1310, FM-1330, and MATH 1315 or 1319 with at least a C average and a Texas State GPA of 2.25 or above. Admission requirements - Fashion Merchandising: Students may apply for admission to the Fashion Merchandising Program (125.00) after the necessary requirements have been fulfilled. In order to enroll in an FM course, Fashion Merchandising majors must maintain a 2.25 Texas State GPA. Before registration, a request can be made for a one-time only waiver, through the departmental advisor. Fashion Merchandising Program Description: The Fashion Merchandising program can prepare students for any number of careers in fashion sales and marketing, buying, promotions and retail management. Computer-based assignments, field trips, speakers, internships, and travel study give students valuable hands on experience. To be better prepared for a career in the fashion industry, it is recommended that students choose to minor in business administration. The program receives strong industry support through the Fashion Merchandising Development Board and the program faculty have substantial academic and professional work experience in retailing. Students must maintain a Texas State GPA of at least 2.25 in order to be a fashion merchandising major and enroll in fashion merchandising courses. Prior to registration, a one-time waiver can be requested through the department advisor. Specialized courses in Fashion Merchandising are required of all Fashion Merchandising majors, including fashion merchandising, fashion merchandising administration, fashion economics, fashion history, culture and consumer behavior, fashion buying principles, textiles, textile product analysis and fashion promotional strategies. All students will be required to complete an internship in one of the related fields.
