Texas Tech University

Producing their own designs, research, applying the lasted trends, as well as managing product development, apparel design, or design and construct costumes or stage, is some of the many things students learn at Texas Tech University when taking advantage of the Apparel Design and Manufacturing program. The foundation for myriad career opportunities is created during the process.

Texas Tech is proud to offer many opportunities to Apparel Design and Manufacturing students. They can choose a minor from such areas as:

  • Art
  • Business
  • Retailing
  • Mass communications
  • Theater

The students attending the Apparel Design and Manufacturing courses have the opportunity to contest in two apparel design competitions held every year, where they can exhibit their creations in a professional show. Elaborate design and production laboratories, a computer laboratory featuring modern, hi-tech apparel design and pattern making, and an on-campus museum with an extensive array of historic textiles and fashion are all available to the students. As Texas Tech is the sole university in the state offering a program in knitwear design and production, allowing our graduates to have a competitive edge in the job market.

The senior internship program plays a prominent role in the Apparel Design and Manufacturing program. This leads the student to obtain practical experience before they graduate.

Graduates might find themselves designing everything from couture to mass-produced garments, patternmaking, pattern grading and marking, illustrating fashion, developing products, analyzing trends, or designing and producing knitwear, and will be prepared for a variety of positions in the apparel industry through the Apparel Design and Manufacturing program in the College of Human Sciences. The university of choice, when it comes to an education in fashion, is Texas Tech.

Participation in various design competitions throughout the school year is encouraged by the Fashion Design Competitions Apparel design and manufacturing students. Each spring, upperclassmen enrolled in ADM 4310 (Apparel Product Development) must participate in Dallas Career Day Fashion Design Competition, supervised by faculty.
