Monserrat College of Art
As a professional art college, Montserrat's liberal arts and fine arts environment enriches the study of graphic design. Montserrat awards a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and a Diploma of the College with concentrations in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Photography, Printmaking, Illustration, Painting and Drawing, and Sculpture. A program in Art Education complements these degrees.
In the Foundations year, students focus on forms, theory, and practice while selecting relevant, complementary courses from a broad Liberal Arts curriculum. Students complete core coursework in design, typography, image manipulation and creation, and select electives from areas such as advertising, poster design, web authoring and digital animation, portfolio development, letterpress printing, and design history and theory. An average class size of eleven guarantees ample student-teacher interaction. A highlight of the program is the design internship and a one- or two-semester senior Design Seminar in which faculty members guide students while they pursue in-depth independent projects.
Graphic Design courses are taught in ultramodern Apple labs that use industry-standard software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Flash, QuarkXPress, Cinema 4D (for 3-D Animation), Final Cut Studio, and TypeTool.
