Graphic Design students at N.C. State can take advantage of all that a large university offers, and at the same time, have a sense of community and familiarity by being part of the smaller College of Design. The program is nationally-renowned for contributions made by its professors and the skills of its graduates. From the very beginning, students study design seriously, working their way though core, topic and focus studios.
In order to stimulate creativity and exchange, the College of Design offers an original in-residence classroom structure. Learning is extended well beyond the classroom, with opportunities for self-directed work that informs future professional practice. Graduates of N.C. State's College of Design can be found in in-house creative offices in private and public institutions, design offices and in teaching both nationally and internationally.
Faculty members are talented in their field and students follow in their footsteps. Numerous journals such as Design Issues, AIGA Journal, Visible Language, Loop (American Institute of Graphic Arts) and Statements (American Center for Design), and a variety of magazines such as Print, Metropolis, Emigré, and I.D., have highlighted the work of faculty and students alike. students are often granted merit scholarships from professional institutions like the American Center for Design and AIGA. Faculty members frequently give talks and show work at professional and educational design conferences. Admission to the College of Design is selective.
