Savannah College of Art and Design

One of the most prestigious art schools in the United States, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) offers undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs in graphic design.

Undergraduates at SCAD follow a progressive curriculum that starts with foundation courses including design history, traditional techniques, and computer design. Students then incorporate theoretical studies as they simultaneously investigate conceptual, aesthetic, and communicative design approaches. Course projects include logos, visual identities, promotional campaigns, packaging, posters, publications, multimedia and interactive designs, Web sites, and information-design solutions.

Graduate graphic design students at SCAD focus on the refinement of their own individual style as they complete a variety of complex design projects. The program culminates in a master's thesis and a graduating exhibition.

Graphic design studies at SCAD incorporate professional design practices and trends in order to encourage students to push the boundaries of traditional design. Students have ample opportunities to enter graphic design competitions and tackle freelance assignments for off-campus clients. They also complete design internships in order to get professional exposure while building up their portfolios.

SCAD's graphic design program is supported by state-of-the-art computer and presentation facilities equipped with the latest Macintosh computers and design software including Director, Dreamweaver, Flash QuarkXPress, and the full Adobe CS suite.

Both undergraduate and graduate students benefit from a dynamic roster of complementary events including field trips to design studios throughout the country, lectures from renowned designers, and participation in on-campus groups including the student chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts and Counterform, SCAD's graphic design student organization. In addition, a sister program in France (SCAD-Lacoste) offers the opportunity to study in Europe.
