Western Carolina University

A driving force behind the design program at Western Carolina University is the idea that students must shape and cultivate their visual vocabulary for successful artistic communication. They achieve this by thoroughly understanding formal design principles, thinking critically about current topics, and expressing themselves fluently in a variety of media. Keeping these goals in mind, courses in history, philosophy, literature and technology complement the fine arts and design curriculum. The result is an energized academic environment.

Future designers work in the new MediaLab which is fully-equipped with Macintosh G5 systems and the most recent graphic and multimedia software. Students who graduate with a B.F.A. in studio art and a concentration in graphic design are prepared for careers or graduate study in art design and related fields.
