San Diego Mesa College
Since 1974, San Diego Mesa College has offered a major in interior design for students who wish to take part in this creative field which blends artistic inclinations with technical knowledge and skills. Graduates are hired by the design industry because of the reputation of a program built on the idea that theory and practice go hand in hand. Constant collaboration with the Advisory Council, composed of industry professionals, ensures that Mesa College's curriculum is aligned with the needs of the profession. A variety of tracks have been established to meet the diverse set of student needs. The Associate of Science Degree incorporates both general education courses and core interior design courses, along with practical work experience. The Certificate of Achievement, which takes two years, trains students to become design assistants, merchandisers, delineators, estimators, or manufacturer or sales representatives. Working professionals who need to obtain certifications or licenses can do so as well through coursework designed to fulfill the requirements of the Certified Interior Designers Law in California. High school students have the option of joining the Tech Prep Specialty Program.
