Intellectual exploration and practical experience characterize the Interior Design program at Delaware College of Art and Design. The program objectives center on teaching students to be creative, responsible interior designers through knowledge of the history of design, a focus on how design relates to society, the exploration of how interiors make an impact on individuals and groups, and the process of taking ideas and visual representations and turning them into refined products. The fundamental first step of this process is developing of solid design concepts and building skills. Classes explore furnishings and materials, color and lighting, space-planning, building code requirements, and basic construction systems. Fortunately, Delaware College of Art and Design is located in a region full of practicing design professionals and therefore its faculty is composed of these active designers. DCAD interior design graduate go on to further their professional education or enter the design industry directly.
