George Washington University
George Washington University's career-oriented, FIDER-accredited interior design program offers both Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design and a Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design. The program offers studios in commercial, residential and large-scale interiors and centers on studies in drawing, design, computer-aided design (CAD), color, materials and methods, textiles, and lighting. Students expand and refine their knowledge of interior design through a series of lecture courses, independent studies and studios taught by four full-time professors, as well as adjunct specialists who are working professionals. BFA and MFA students get hands-on experience at prominent Washington design firms through internships and practicums, respectively. The interior design program, based in the picturesque Mt. Vernon campus, has a CAD computer lab, dedicated drafting studios and a design resource room. Students also have access to the Eckles Library and its ample interior design reference materials. Students may join the Washington Metropolitan Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the Potomac Chapter of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), and BFA students may opt for the NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification) exam.
