The FSU interior design program, located in the College of Visual Arts, Theatre and Dance, embraces the idea that good interior design is not an extravagance but a necessity. The comprehensive design program, part of the FSU curriculum for more than sixty years, consists of a FIDER-accredited undergraduate degree as well as graduate studies. Faculty members work towards making the experience powerful and productive. Students progress through fundamentals courses, learning about the principles of design, its underlying history, theory and philosophy, and how the psychology and sociology of space, ethics, and business practices act as the foundation of good interior design. These future designers focus on the studio techniques and design processes necessary to solve today's complicated design problems, and in turn learn how to make interior spaces better places for working and living, all the while protecting natural and human resources.
