Gwinnett Technical College offers a variety of options for students considering the study of interior design. The Interior Design Assistant Certificate Program (IDA1) centers on interior design theory and how that theory is applied in practice. Possible career options include: retail home furnishing sales, visual merchandising, assistant designer in retail and residential employment, and showroom sales. The Kitchen and Bath Designer Certificate Program (KBD1) trains students for entry-level and advancement positions in the Kitchen and Bath Industry with an emphasis on theory and practical application. Coursework focuses on developing the knowledge and skills required for this specialized field. Students will become proficient presenters and will have a thorough understanding of the basics of kitchen and bath design, construction and mechanical systems, materials, university and theme design applications, lighting, software technology, and business practices. Internships are a requirement. Certified Designers are qualified to sit for board exams upon completion of the program. The Painted and Faux Finishes Certificate Program trains students to create a wide range of paint finishes, like antiquing and pickling, marble, semi-precious stones, and wood grain. Students also receive training in the fundamentals of interior design and business practices. The Interior Diploma Program (IT02) launches successful interior design careers. The emphasis here is on courses in interiors and diploma-level general education courses. Students are prepared for numerous employments options. The Associate in Applied Science Degree (IT03) is also a career-oriented degree program which consists of courses in interiors and college-level general education courses.
