Savannah College of Art and Design
In 2007, DesignIntelligence in Best Architecture and Design Schools rated SCAD's graduate interior design degree program in the top nine nationally and in the top two in the South. SCAD's dual-location provides students with important access to museums, trade shows, product manufacturing facilities, and professional design offices and showrooms. Both SCAD-Atlanta and SCAD-Savannah offer the options of a B.F.A., M.A. and M.F.A. in interior design. SCAD-eLearning offers an online M.A. as well. Students learn about many areas of the interior design world: sustainable, modern, contemporary and commercial design. Coursework focuses on construction, finishing materials, technology, design history, human responses to the environment, building codes, barrier-free design, furnishings, lighting, sustainable and green design and professional practices. Graduate studies emphasize large and small residential, commercial and institutional projects and seek to address a number of environmental, behavioral, technical and decorative concerns. Students have access to ample offerings in the interior design resource library and electronic design software on a fully-integrated intranet system. Students can specialize in the following areas: commercial interior design, hospitality design, display/exhibition design, product design, residential interior design, space planning, stage design, professional rendering, specifications, and showroom management.
