Chaminade University of Honolulu
The interior design program at Chaminade University fosters an environment in which majors push themselves to come up with innovative solutions to design problems that create safe, functional, aesthetically-pleasing interior environments. Two routes are offered: a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and an Associate of Arts degree. Students who plan pursue careers as professional designers opt for the BFA, which offers an ample range of courses that give future designers the necessary exposure to the industry that they need. This degree blends art with practical skills, with a focus on classic art and architecture, the visual arts, problem solving, universal design, materials research, computer skills, and business and ethics studies. An additional important component is the assessment of building codes and research products used in the design industry. The Associate of Art Degree in Interior Design gives students the opportunity to complete a two-year degree in Interior Design that provides students with an understanding of the fundamentals of the profession. The National Council for Interior Design Qualifications accepts a two-year degree accompanied with four years' experience and will allow students with these qualifications to take the NCIDQ exam. Two-year degree students may go on to pursue a four-year degree. Chaminade takes part in the Hogan Entrepreneurial Program.
