Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis

Indiana University's Associate of Science in Interior Design takes two years to complete. The program stresses technical proficiency, methodology and aesthetic awareness, always keeping foremost in mind the mission of interior designers: the transformation of interior space to improve the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Interior design students learn powerful visual presentation and communication skills and graduate with a strong sense of ethical, environmental, business, and other contemporary issues. Most importantly, students know how to make connections between what they learn in the classroom and what they put into practice. Students have the opportunity to work with faculty members that represent the architecture, interior design and construction sectors. The program focuses on providing students with the aesthetic and technological skills they need to become interior design assistants and to quality for the NCIDQ exam (after four years' experience). The following residential and commercial design positions are characteristic of what most students enter upon graduating: assistants to interior design and architectural firms; CAD technicians; manufacturer's reps for products used in the design and construction sectors; sales associates in retail or manufacturing settings; or as self-employed designers.
