Iowa State University's FIDER-accredited interior design program ranks in the top 10% nationally. It has a professional focus, training students in creative problem solving, lighting, ergonomics, structures, color, materials, building and fire codes, and history while making sure they understand how people perceive environments and how environments influence behavior. Coursework is a blend lecture classes and studio time, and students take liberals arts courses as well to graduate with a BFA. Iowa State also offers an MFA in Interior Design the centers on superior creative achievement. The MFA capstone is a thesis-exhibition. The MA in Art and Design focuses on on applied design research and analysis.
