The Bachelor of Science in Interior Design at Newbury College is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation. The program fosters an environment in which students take part in intellectual, humanistic and social learning to better prepare themselves for their careers. The interior design curriculum strikes a balance between general and professional studies, with student projects that reflect both practical and theoretical applications. Students learn how to synthesize information and analyze problems from a variety of viewpoints and articulate their design concepts through drawing, drafting, model making, and computer- aided design (CAD). These skills are complemented by a study of historic styles, construction, lighting, materials, and furniture design. In the senior year, students complete a capstone project and participate in a professional internship. These opportunities, along with the change to take part design competitions and professional organizations, prepare students for successful careers. Students can elect a minor in a complementary area, such as social science or business.
