Henry Ford Community College

Henry Ford Community College's program in Interior Design provides students with the opportunity to develop both technically and creatively as an interior designer. Courses, which are offered in sequence, provide students with a strong foundation in art in conjunction with highly specialized coursework which focus on developing technical and theoretical skills while creating a space which emphasizes the interaction of people in their environment. To this end, Henry Ford students study topics including ergonomics, environment and behavior, anthropometrics, and graphic communications and rendering. Computer applications, fundamental in the current interior design industry, are used throughout the core curriculum. The program also includes six interior design studio courses which allow students to employ skills used in their classes to develop their own unique designs. The first 42 credits required by the program allow students to meet the minimum guidelines to qualify for the NCIDQ examination. Students who complete the coursework acquire a significant base of knowledge which will enable them to acquire an entry-level position or transfer to a four year program.
