Maryville University of Saint Louis gives interior design students the knowledge and skills needed to create interior spaces that increase productivity and quality of life while safeguarding the health, safety and welfare of the public. The Council for Interior Design Accreditation has recognized the B.F.A. in Interior Design, which starts with art and design foundation courses, and focuses on developing a multi-faceted, mature portfolio that showcases each student's competitive skills. Coursework centers on concept development, color, design theory, human factors, architectural drawing, design programming, furniture and construction documentation, computer-aided design and drafting. The program also takes into consideration commercial design, environmental factors, codes, business practices, furniture design, presentation techniques, legal recognition, comprehensive design development and field experiences. Great care is taken to develop career and job prospects and create a portfolio and résumé that will be key to a student's future success. The Faculty of Art and Design encourages students in good academic standing to study abroad at one of the institutions affiliated with the American Institute of Foreign Study: the University of Paris, (The Sorbonne) in France; the University of Granada in Spain; Central Saint Martins and Chelsea Colleges of Art and Design in England; Macquarie University in Australia; and the University of Salzburg in Austria.
