New Hampshire Community Technical College-Manchester
New Hampshire Community Technical College awards an Associate in Science Degree in Interior Design, as well as a Certificate of Interior Design. The College seeks students who strive to improve living, working, and social spaces through creativity and innovation problem solving. The curriculum is based on the guidelines developed by the Foundation for Interior Design Research and gives students the necessary knowledge and practice to sit for the National Council for Interior Design examination. Two key components of interior design studies at New Hampshire Community Technical College are the portfolio preparation course and the internship. These courses further prepare students who plan to pursue a baccalaureate degree program at another university. The Certificate in Interior Design trains students in to identify problems, then carry out the appropriate research in order to solve them creatively. These problems involve functions and aesthetics of both residential and work environments. Certificate students take part in an internship, which readies them for an entry-level position as an interior design assistant. To be admitted to the interior design program, applicants must meet the college-wide admissions criteria, and in addition to those requirements, must: demonstrate competency in high school algebra, reading, and English composition; communicate effectively in English; be team-oriented as well as able to work independently; be able to visualize a space from start to finish; be accepting of criticism and willing to incorporate it into their work; meet deadlines.
