Appalachian State University

The Department of Technology and the College of Fine and Applied Art at Appalachian State University offers a four-year, professional degree interior design program leading to a Bachelor of Science. The goal is for students to seek professional certification by sitting for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification Exam [NCIDQ] as well as to apply for state-specific licensure. The program is based on a balance of theory-centered lecture courses and practical application in studio courses, always keeping environmental responsibility and university design issues in mind. Students learn to design for the health and safety of a building's occupants and come up with practice and aesthetically pleasing design solutions. Students complete both University Core Curriculum and Major courses, with an emphasis on studio classes and portfolio development. The program culminates in a senior exhibit.
