Marywood University
Marywood University offers B.F.A. programs in Design and Studio Art, with concentrations in Interior Architecture/Design, Graphic Design, Photography, Illustration, Painting, Ceramics and Sculpture. All B.F.A. students complete 78 credit hours in art foundations courses, art history and criticism, and coursework for their chosen area of expertise. Interior Architecture and Design students focus on the visual, technical and aesthetic aspects of residential and commercial spaces. They complete rigorous training to become adept at integrating art and design through analyzing space, and planning for and using materials, furnishings and construction. Career-oriented classes include: Basic Interior Design, Residential Design/Commercial Interior Design, Housing and Environmental Design, Instrument Drawing, Interior Design Rendering and Presentation, History of Furniture, Autocad and Professional Practices in Interior Design, Three Dimensional Design, Textile Design, and Material Applications in Interior Design. Students receive a strong foundation in theory and then apply this knowledge in studio courses and in internships with noted design firms. Graduates have a number of exciting career options and often join large firms because of their excellent field experiences and in-depth portfolios. Students have access to state-of-the-art installations, all accessible during the week, weeknights and weekends. Marywood has active students chapters of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), and there are frequent excursions to design centers in New York and Philadelphia.
