Students who follow the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Interior Design Technology (IDT) at Pellissippi State Technical Community College will find themselves well-trained for a variety of exciting career opportunities due to the blend of technical, marketing and communication skills that they will acquire. Such jobs include working for an interior design or architectural firm, or as a merchandiser, designer, or sales rep in industry sectors like floor coverings, furnishings, fixtures, fabrics, and finishes. Students sometimes go on to work as designers or supervisors in the construction industry. After completing the degree and four years of practical experience, students are eligible to sit for the national licensing exam, the National Council for Interior Design Qualification. Pellissippi graduates are proficient in CAD software programs, and they take part in paid internships during their last semester, greatly expanding their experience and opening doors to future job possibilities.
