Houston Community College System
Upon successful completion of Houston Community College's interior design curriculum, students are awarded an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Interior Design. This diploma represents four semesters and two summersof serious study of interior design and the creativity, technical prowess, and business acumen that are a part of the profession. In addition to course work, students take part in an Internship which gives them the real-world, hands-on skills that employers find so valuable. Within the curriculum, three certificates are awarded. The Interior Decorating Marketable Skills Achievement Award is geared towards a career in interior decorating, where a knowledge of finishes, fabrics, and small business operational sense are more important. The Office Assistant Marketable Skills Achievement Award trains students for entry-level administrative positions in interior design firms. Finally, the Interior Design Colorist Marketable Skills Achievement Award is directed towards a student who wishes to go into the field of materials, textiles and color styling in interior design. The Advanced Technical Certificate is available after degree completion.
