The University of Texas at Austin offers a four-year Bachelor of Science in Interior Design. The FIDER-accredited, professional degree program is a part of the School of Architecture and commences with foundation courses in drawing, design, and a study of the ideas of noted interior architects who have shaped and changed the field. Similar to the architecture studio education, the curriculum blends theory with history, construction and computer applications, all the while focusing on intently on interior architecture. Of special note is the "Sound Building" tradition, in which third-year interior design student take part. After completing this series, they go to workshop-style seminars and discussions pertinent to the interior design field. In studio courses, students can fully explore full-scale buildings, furniture design, and personalized research projects.
