University of the Incarnate Word
Interior Design students at the University of the Incarnate Word take part in a curriculum that emphasizes the skills and knowledge required to do research and solve problems related to functionality and aesthetics in interior environments. The Interior Environmental Design trains students to think creatively yet critically, and to be well-versed in architecture, construction codes, standards, furniture and materials in order to conceive of and design residential, commercial, industrial and public spaces that suit their clients' specifications. Important aspects of the program includes hands-on work with both the traditional tools of a designer and computer-aided drafting software. The design studio and sample room are conveniently connected to one another, and students have the following tools at their fingertips: twenty drafting tables, a large matt cutter, interior design catalogues, product information, a blue-print machine, internet access and a large format plotter. The CAD course takes place in a lab in the recently completed AT&T Science Building. Students can also use the Media Center. which is open every day to allow full, convenient access. The Interior Environmental Design program boasts its own gallery space. Graduates of the program go on to work in design firms or for themselves as interior designers.
