The Brooks Institute offers "Innovative Film and Graphic Design Training" in the Film and Video Production Program, an outgrowth course of photography training since the mid-50's. Brooks' students have the opportunity to master the art and craft of movie making, by using the same hands-on approach to teaching as well as their learning.
Isidore Mankofsky, Cinematography for The Muppet Movie and Somewhere in Time; Dominick Palmer, Cinematography on the TV series M*A*S*H; Robert Legato, Academy Award winner for Best Effects (Digital Domain) on the movie Titanic, Visual Effects Supervisor for The Aviator; and most recently, graduate Boris Undorf, Best Cinematography at New York's VisionFest '04' Festival for Sonata: have all graduated from this program, which is considered to be one of the best kept secrets in the industry.

Most students are awarded the Bachelor of Arts Degree in as little as three years. Students typically take one core film/video production class and one general education course during each of our six eight-week terms. Hollywood is always looking for specially trained individuals that are capable of creating the next blockbuster or independent art film. Students who major in Feature Film learn about the many aspects of narrative film production including conception, all the way to post-production of the final film.
As part of the program, students become familiar with the Bolex camera, and are able to create animation by using film stop motion techniques. Students will be required to perform weekly exercises such as miniature set building, character and model construction, miniature lighting, and camera movements. Before the final critique of a short stop animation project pre-planning and storyboarding will have occurred.
