Over 500 leading corporations have been awarded the 2008 Good Design prize for the highest standard and innovative product design.
Among the recipients of the award conferred annually by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design was Steelcase, an international office architecture, furniture and technology company, which received recognition for its white cobi chair by British design and architecture firm, PearsonLloyd.
In accordance with the company's mission to make interior spaces more efficient and enhance the work experience, the chair features an ergonomic design intended to allow free movement and minimize fatigue.
It also uses a weight-activated mechanism which adapts the chair to the user's movements and supports the person's center of gravity, according to the company announcement.
The chair was created in collaboration with Steelcase Design Studio and offers "a strong alternative counterpoint to the industrys black trend," the Museum press release says.
"The Good Design award recognizes superiority in innovation, construction, and function," says James Ludwig, Steelcase vice president for global design.
Founded in Chicago in 1950, Good Design awards bestow international recognition on the worlds most prominent designers and manufacturers for advancing new, visionary, and innovative product concepts.
