Shopko announced that it won a design competition for its new prototype store built in Suamico, Wisconsin, last year.
Chain Store Age is an industry magazine that celebrates retail design across industry segments through its annual Retail Store of the Year award. The winning interior, designed by Chute Gerdeman Retail in collaboration with Shopko, aims for the brand to connect with women shoppers who are its core customers.
As such, it features an entry area that feels like a "modern and warm" specialty store. To eliminate the "big box" feel and make the shop a more friendly place, boutique focal points, incorporating classic design elements and complemented by lampshades and rugs, are located at the entry to each of the store''s major departments.
In addition to that, framed lifestyle images are displayed around the perimeter of the store to evoke the idea of family photos displayed at home.
Shopko''s store design is profiled in the February issue of Chain Store Age.
The company is planning to implement the design in its future stores throughout the country.
