When Michelle Andrews graduated from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, and started working for Acura, she started out small humbly designing door handles.
Four years later, the 28-year-old exterior-designer is the proud architect of the ZDX, Acura''s new four door crossover sedan that even its designer has difficulty describing.
"We didnt know exactly what it was - car, S.U.V. or what - but everybody liked it," Christensen tells the New York Times.
The byproduct of a design contest from Acura''s marketing department, Christensen''s sketch of the ZDX remains largely intact in the finished product. "I got lucky," she tells James Healey of USA Today.
On sale in December, the ZDX''s $44,000 price tag might entice or discourage consumers opines Healey. "Buyers are sometimes fickle."
The design program at the Art Center College of Design may develop a bit of a reputation in the automotive industry as Chip Foose, the designer behind the Plymouth Prowler roadster, is also an alumnus of the program.
