Absolut Vodka, whose iconic advertisements have been depicting the classic bottle shape in innumerable variations since the early 80''s, has announced the creation of the Absolut Art award to celebrate young international artists that explore creativity through the simultaneous integration of multiple art forms.
The prize of more than $22,000 and the chance of collaboration or underwritten contribution to one of the companies design publications in the coming future will be awarded to Israeli artist Keren Cytter.
"Cytter''s works take her beyond the traditional art forms, while exploring the intersection between theater, performance, film and installation art," proclaims Daniel Birnbaum, head of the award jury and visual arts professor at a Frankfurt design school. "Her artistry involves investigative narratives which reason with both our subconscious and our quest for good storytelling."
The vodka company has been collaborating with artists for over 30 years, at times featuring the work of painters like Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Louise Bourgeois, as well as a wealth of fashion photographers, sculptors and art directors.
