The annual Art Basel: Miami show, and its sister program Design Miami, are intended to showcase the work of leading artists and designers working in the commercial design industry. At the star-studded gala kicking off the weeklong design festival, German automaker Audi introduced its newest flagship design - the 2011 Audi A8.
The luxury sedan, which goes on sale late next year, will feature a 4.2 litter V-8 engine running 372 horsepower, an eight-speed transmission and standard all-wheel drive.
Lucy Liu hosted the evenings festivities entitled "the art of progress," an event meant to bring together the worlds of culture and technology, design and art and celebrate "designers among designers," according to a release from Audi.
Other attendees of the party included hip hop guru and fashion designer Pharell Williams, notable actress Christina Ricci and one of the stars of the Twilight film series Kellen Lutz.
Audis''s announcement of the A8 was timed to coincide with the company''s 100th anniversary as an influential car designer.
