In a move designed to help reinvent inner-city living, Trespa Design center, a global building material company, will host an awards ceremony in honor of the City Entertainment Center awards student design competition in January.
The competition, which was co-sponsored by the American Institute of Architecture Students, saw architecture and civil engineering students creating a new take on urban entertainment centers with room for retail outlets, restaurants, theaters bookstores and cafes. Winning designs will go on display at the Trespa Design Center in Soho.
"The city center is critical as a place to create community and coherent urban visions, not only to stimulate the economy but also to create beautiful streetscapes," says the company''s marketing manager, Darlene Byrne.
Winners of the design competition received cash prizes totaling over $7,600, as well as exposure in a major exhibitor. The Trespa Design center was created in 2008 to promote student achievements in design and architecture, and regularly hosts exhibitions of talented student and studio artists from across the country.
The exhibit will open in mid July and run through the rest of the month.
