Designing a video game is - above all else - a team effort. Before a disk even enters a jewel case, an army of software technicians, sound engineers and computer animators has poured over every inch of them. As such, truly dynamic games come from inspired development teams.

That is the case with the French designers Quantic Dream''s latest PS3 title Heavy Rain. Directed by gaming wunderkind David Cage, Heavy Rain is a unique thriller built around compelling, neo-noir style animations and a ground-breaking control system.

Players will take command of one of four characters, each of whom will come with their own unique control style and story. As the game progresses, the actions of one character will directly affect the story of another to create an interlocking and entirely immersive visual experience.

Game play will continue even if a character dies, switching instead to another player whose story will be directly affected by the previous chapter.

The graphics have been praised for their gritty and compellingly realistic style, with artists successfully capturing the raw emotion of their characters at both their heights and their depths.
