In celebration of Earth Day, a sustainable cat litter producer has announced two contests that are intended to promote green design.
Yesterday's News, a company that turns recycled newspaper into eco-friendly cat litter, has opened the entry process for its Do-Gooder Design Challenge, which will encourage fashion designers and pet owners alike to create eco-friendly handbags.
Designers Lara Miller, Samantha Pleet, Bahar Shahpar, Elias Abadi as well as Celeste and Anthony Lilore have committed to creating original handbag designs using recycled newspaper. The top three creations will be shown at the Yesterday's News Green Catwalk and Workshop in New York City this September, when they will be put to auction to benefit various charities.
Furthermore, cat owners can try their hand at handbag design by using the company's online application to choose patterns, colors, shapes and accents. Representatives will select the grand prize winners, whose creations will be put into production by a sustainable handbag designer.
Individuals who wish to enter the online competition will also be required to submit an essay of 100 words or less that details their efforts to do good things for their cat, home or the environment.
