Healthy Child Healthy World - a nonprofit group that helps parents protect young children from harmful chemicals and pollutants - has announced a partnership of industry leaders in green design to create a real-life, interactive model for healthier living.
Healthy Home 2010 will be the first designer show house in the U.S. to emphasize healthy interiors by implementation of a new interior design approach developed by a group of industry leaders specializing in sustainable design. Construction of the home will be completed in September and will be available for tours through mid-October. It will be located in Palatine, Illinois, which is northwest of Chicago.
A group of product and design experts will comprise the Interiors Advisory Board, which will oversee and approve materials, furnishings and products employed by the building and design team for use in the completed project. These guidelines will be used throughout the design process to promote non-toxic, healthier homes.
The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that indoor pollutants can be two-to-five times higher than outdoor pollutants. Indoor contaminants like mold and toxic chemicals are increasingly linked to various health problems.
