ARCHITECT magazine releases its top 50 list
ARCHITECT magazine has announced its Architect 50 list of top-ranked firms. Companies that made the list were recognized for their ecological commitment and design quality as well as corporate profitability. This is the second year the magazine has compiled the list.

The magazine's editors admitted to being apprehensive about this year's compilation, as the architectural field has faced a business stretch dominated by falling revenues and layoffs over the past few years.

To participate, architectural firms had to provide the magazine with various pieces of information, including their annual revenues. While a few firms declined to participate this year, the magazine found that most firms were eager to respond and participate.

Three of the top five firms are holdovers from last year, while some that were ranked highly last year did not make the list. One firm on this year's list was the New York-based Spector Group, which was recognized for its work in green design.

"Green design is a growing sector of our business and one we feel passionately about," said Marc Spector, a principal of the firm. "It is especially noteworthy for us to be recognized for this. The fact that we were able to make the list is a testament to the success of our business strategy, the quality of our work, and our extremely talented staff."
