Over the next week, the gaming industry will trot out its newest batch of tech and peripherals meant to showcase the future of the home entertainment industry at the largest gaming convention in the world, the E3 Electronic Entertainment Expo. While some entries have been mildly received - like Microsoft's forthcoming Kinnect software - one group of game designers from Austin, Texas, have been making waves and its all thanks to a familiar mouse.
Warren Spector, a Texan designer that Statesman.com refers to as "Austin's gaming godfather," revealed his latest creation: Disney Epic Mickey, a new 3D game for the Nintendo Wii featuring the popular cinematic icon in a new and unique adventure through a dark and mysterious world. The game sldo features appearances from several of Disney's signature characters.
Designed by Austin's Junction Point Studios, the game will allow players to take control of Mickey and their surroundings at large by altering the environment by painting or erasing certain elements of the background, with the outcome of the game changing depending on how one plays through.
Spector claims that the game will help revitalize the iconic mouse in the eyes of fans and gamers alike.
"For all the success [Mickey has] achieved, it's always felt, to me at least, that he hasn't quite become the video game hero he deserves to be," Spector told the news provider. "If my team and I have our way, that is about to change."
