Following the success of the third installment of the Toy Story series, DreamWorks Animation has released plans to breathe new life into another children's plaything.

The film giant recently launch a partnership with Danish company Dam Things to create a movie about Good Luck Trolls, the wild-haired, gem-bellied dolls that inspired fads in both the '60s and '90s.

Troll dolls were invented in 1959 by Thomas Dam, a Danish fisherman and woodcutter, who carved a wooden figure based on the Scandinavian troll legend as a Christmas present for his daughter.

Siblings Adam Wilson and Melanie Wilson LaBracio will partner to write the screenplay, and Danni Festa of Festa Entertainment has been selected to produce the film.

Calle Ostergaard, CEO of Dam Things, said that the company has been planning to bring the Good Luck Troll toy line back into homes around the world and we are excited to see how the talented storytellers and artists at DreamWorks Animation will bring them to life."

Company officials did not indicate a potential release date for the upcoming feature film.
