PACT, an organic undergarment producer, has received two awards from the 2010 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA).
IDEA representatives announced today that the company, which uses its designs to spread social and environmental messages, won a gold award in the Ecodesign category and silver-level honors in the personal accessories category.
The company calls upon the talents of design professionals - including industrial designer Yves Behar and architect David Adjaye - to create original underwear designs that promote a particular cause. Partner nonprofit organizations receive 10 percent of the profits from the sale of the organic cotton garments.
Jason Kibbey, co-founder and CEO of PACT, attributed to the success of his brand to "the integration of style, sustainability and social consciousness in a way that is both functional and beautiful."
This year, the IDEA received 405 entries, which is more than ever before. The winners were determined by an 18-person panel of designers, who were selected by the Industrial Designers Society of America. Award categories included products, eco-design, interaction design, packaging, strategy, research and concepts.
