Those who wish to pursue careers in video game design may benefit from exploring games on different formats. As new technologies emerge, new platforms are being created for game play.

For example, a number of popular games that were previously made for systems such as PlayStation and Nintendo GameCube are now available on smart phones. For example, Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies is currently being offered for the iPhone.

In order to recognize the best new versions of popular games, the 28th annual Golden Joystick Awards are taking votes for the Downloadable Game of the Year. More than 680,000 votes have already been cast in this year's competition.

The full list of nominations for this category are: 'splosion Man, Assassin's Creed 2: Bonfire of the Vanities, Battlefield 1943, Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies, FIFA 10, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, LittleBigPlanet, Plants vs. Zombies, Shadow Complex and Trials HD.

This is the first year that the Golden Joystick Awards are recognizing downloadable versions of popular video games.
